Conference Strands:
Sustaining a Changing World: Environment, Economy, Community

Sustainability is the capacity to endure.  For our changing world to endure, our natural environment, economy, and communities must be in balance.  This theme pertains to the environmental education community’s need to provide an education that prepares our students of all ages to work and live in a rapidly changing world. Also, to shape that world to be one in which citizens, business, and government practice environmental stewardship and leave smaller ecological footprints.

Strand 1 Environment: A presentation in this strand should inform Conference attendees about how citizens, business, and government practice environmental stewardship. The presentation may also be about the benefits and challenges faced by those who strive for a sustainable world.  Environmental educators may share environmental curriculum or programs that prepare students for a rapidly changing world.

Strand 2 Economy: A presentation in this strand should inform Conference attendees about how economics affects a sustainable business plan. Pitfalls, successes, and the future of sustainable economies in Georgia may be included. Environmental educators may share economic related curriculum or programs that prepare students to combine economics and the environment.

Strand 3 Community: A presentation in this strand should inform Conference attendees about community issues involving sustainability or the lack therof. A presentation in this strand may also be about partnerships or programs leading to sustainable communities. Environmental educators may share curriculum or programs that prepare students for rapidly changing community situations.
